I Must Mistreat My Mouth

Today I went have been trying to churn out papers! I have finished my Equine Law outline for that paper and worked on editing my submission for the Law Journal. Last night I was selected as an Articles Editor of our law journal, which is so thrilling and an real honor--but, it also means I will have a lot more on my plate. I am just trying to get all the things looming over my head finished right now--I have the ethics portion of the Bar in two weeks (eek!), two papers this semester, and, of course, the dreaded finals.

I still can't believe the semester is already halfway over as of this Friday. CRAZY. Seriously, 2L year is flying by a lot more quickly than 1L year.

Had a dentist appointment today and I realized just awful of a human being I am to my mouth.
Bad Sign No. 1:Your dentist looks at you when you walk in the door and they say, "Long time no see!" Confession: It had been I swear it thought it was one two years.
Bad Sign No. 2: the hygienist asks which flavor fluoride you would like, and your selection makes her say, "wow, you really must be a sugar-holic." So what if if cherry cheesecake sounded better than grape?
And the Worst Sign: After your dentist examines your mouth, he says, "well the good news is you don't have oral cancer." WOW. that's something I have never thought of, but I guess it's relieving. But, then promptly follows it with "but you do have two cavities. On opposite sides of your mouth."

Ugh. But, he did convince me of the next thing I just have to have: the Sonicare toothbrush, which even makes a whitening version that they sell as duo so Cam and I can have matching white teeth.


Doesn't the couple on the box just look so happy? In all seriousness, it does look pretty awesome. And, I pledge now that I will attempt flossing on a regular basis and give Cam complete permission to hold me accountable to this.

The day did get better when my dear friend, Lauren, owner and event planner extraordinaire of Lauren Chitwood Events, stopped by before her meeting in town with a bride. All that Lauren juggles and does makes me feel like my life is sane and downright boring!

Another Snowy Day for Ritz

Ritz got a clean bill of health from the vet. She hates going, even though they are so sweet there. I even brought her favorite toy (the alligator) but it didn't help. She isn't mean, she just consistently wants to run and hide in my lap or behind me. The way it breaks my heart to see my dog get a shot--i know I will be the most horrible mother at the doctor's office.

Whenever the vet left the room, she seemed interested in sniffing out their treats.
But once they gave them to her, she refused to eat them and just kept looking at them. However, once we got home, she devoured them--it is as if she just knew they were going to poison her.

Then this morning, I woke up to this view out of our window:
Clearly mother nature does not know that spring is only weeks away. Unlike everyone, else I am not sick of the snow--I love it. If it is going to be cold, let it snow!

But, I hate not being able to curl up and enjoy it from home with my husband.

Cam had to go to work, as usual. Here's a shot Cam took of New Circle Road at 8 am (I was a little upset to see he was taking a picture while driving with those conditions, but of course I'm just the worrying wife):
And of course, UK believes we should risk life and limb (and car) to drive into class. Here were the road conditions at 10 am when I drove down Tates Creek (only one lane each way was passable) (also, i waited to take the picture at a red light like a good driver should, ahem ahem Cam).
One would assume UK could definitely clear the sidewalks since they dragged us in on what was deemed the most hazardous weather day of the year this far, but of course, that would be too much to ask for.

Luckily, I got to go home and play with Ritz in the snow though afterward.

And then it started coming down a little too heavy for her to be happy anymore outside.
And she was ready to come in--poor thing started shivering at the door.

Happy Valentine's Day

Cam and I had a busy weekend! Our friends, Sarah and Dave (both in law school with me), just got engaged and had a wonderful engagement party on Friday. We are so excited for them! Check out her super cute puppy's blog, The Adventures of Ella Ruby Rose.

On Saturday we met my dad to finally celebrate Christmas and watched UK/TN Gameday. We are so proud of our cats! Cam's little brother, Drew, interns at Rupp Arena just HAD to be on the floor for Gameday and he just HAD to meet Dickie V and Erin Andrews. I think every man in the country is jealous of this pic (I'm more jealous of her hair):

Then last night we went over to Joe and Ceci's house to celebrate his birthday/valentine's day. Cam bought Joe a large 1.5L of Chimay Grand Reserve so we had wonderful beer while we cooked. Julie and Felix brought over the best glaze over cream cheese that I have ever had: Dr. Pete's Praline Mustard Glaze (can be found at the Mousetrap for those who are local). Everyone absolutely loved it and I know we will pick up a bottle next time we go.

We then had a wonderful meal: Joe grilled steaks, Ceci made a vegetable pasta, I made asparagus with hollandaise sauce, Julie and Felix made twice baked potatoes, and Ceci picked up a Carnegie Deli cheesecake. Carnegie actually shares their recipe, so you can click here for it. It was a wonderful night with wonderful friends and food and topped off with a fabulous win by the CATS!

Today Cam and I got up early and went to church. He was so sweet and bought me a gold dipped rose.
He has gotten me one every Valentine's day since we started dating, so I am up to five now. They are so beautiful and mean so much to me. I bought everything to make his favorite-- chocolate covered strawberries--so we may open a bottle of wine and make dinner and dessert tonight while we watch more snow fall!

Snowy Days

This winter has been so consistently snowy. It seems like every week we are getting more snow--with even more supposed to come this weekend. I love snow--if it is going to be cold, I want snow. Fingers are still crossed that we can manage a snow day before we hit March.

Snowy evenings lead to...

...snowy mornings.

A certain puppy decided she doesn't mind the snow after all once she figured out that...

...it was basically tastes like one of her favorite edible treats--ice cubes--as long as it's not yellow. She played and ran outside for at least an hour until she got chilly....

...and came inside to spend the afternoon with her favorite heated blanket.

Last night a group of fellow 2Ls got together at our house and we had a vegetarian dinner night. We had 13 girls--half who are vegetarian--and each person brought their favorite veggie dish. It was a lot of fun--everyone brought great dishes and it was great to get some more ideas. I made a roasted red pepper sauce over ravioli and almond lace sandwich cookies. Some of my favorites that surprised me were "snobby joes"--a veggie spin on sloppy joes, a barley dish (i had never had barley before besides in beer), and teriyaki brussel sprouts (which i usually absolutely hate but these were fabulous). Everything though was really good! I think the girls want to make it a monthly event, which will be fabulous!

Monday Blues

Today is a rather boring Monday. I am in the "blah" February stage where I am beginning to hate the dreary weather and I haven't slept well so I'm rather tired. It probably doesn't help I have an oral argument tonight and really just don't want to do it. At all. Blah.

I finally broke down and got a new driver's license today and--of course--I hate my picture. My hair looks too poofy and I realized when I have to look up at the camera my face looks substantially chubbier than it should. Compare this picture to the last license picture (taken only two weeks ago) and you'll see what I mean. Oh well, at least I don't have to take my passport out to the bars with me anymore...


BUT, we did have a great, relaxing weekend. Cam and I have something big scheduled every weekend from now until the weekend of March 26th, so we decided to take advantage of the fact that we had nothing scheduled this past weekend and just took some time to relax! On Friday my wonderful surprised me with Gigi's cupcakes (they just opened in Lexington this weekend).


He brought home a Peanut Butter Cup and Chocolate Strawberry. We both agreed the Peanut Butter Cup was substantially better than the chocolate strawberry. The icing literally tasted like peanut butter fudge. Now that I think about it though, maybe this is why I looked fatter in my license picture....hmmm..
Cam also had stopped at Liquor Barn and picked up a few different beers neither of us had tried so we could do our own at home beer tasting. He picked up Chimay and Old Engine Oil. We absolutely loved the Chimay.


Then on Saturday we went to the AllTech Brewery tour (who brews Kentucky Ale). It is a great, local brewery who currently brews three beers: Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Ale Light, and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Kentucky Ale was actually the local beer we served at our wedding. The tour was very nice--short, informative, and included a tasting of all three beers. Right now, Kentucky Ale is only sold in Kentucky, but AllTech hopes to expand it worldwide after a "debut" at the World Equestrian Games.

And, we found one of the best deals in town: you can purchase a "growler" (a 64 ounce jug) of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale (Kentucky Ale that has been aged in bourbon barrels). You can then bring the empty growler back to AllTech or Liquor Barn and get it refilled anytime. It is one of my favorite beers and it is much cheaper to do it this way than to buy it at the store. Cam and I are definitely thinking this calls for weekly refills. I forgot to take a picture of our growler before we drank it, but here is one I found:


And, of course, on Sunday we went to church and then watched the Superbowl. It was fabulous just to relax all weekend--especially with the busy weeks ahead!

Very Classy, South Carolina

South Carolina's Student Senate passed a resolution regarding their recent win over Kentucky, in which they stated the superiority of their teams as a whole, degraded the Kentucky Wildcat, and challenged any team from Kentucky to play any Gamecock team.

This not only shows how classy their fans are, but in making such a big deal of their win and sending us this resolution, they, in practicality, admit they thought so little of their team that they did not expect to win and that their Student Senate has nothing more important than to pass frivolous resolutions for the sole reason of being cocky. As a former member of Student Government, I can tell you we valued our time, position and sports team more than to submit resolutions that we felt did not have substantial impact to better the student body.

Before they get too high on their horse, someone should point out Kentucky has a 41-10 against South Carolina, Kentucky has a superior record this season, and this resolution has managed to fire up Kentucky even more than just the loss.

Regardless, you better believe, 24,000 of our closest friends CAN'T WAIT to see y'all in Rupp on the 25th.
