Kitchen Update: Phase 2

Finally...an update on our kitchen.  Phase 3 consists of the final touches: the sink, faucet, granite and island door installation and should be done this week.  Here's phase 2: the installation of the island, moulding, and painting.

Here's our island. It is a custom build, so we did the large braces to hold up the future breakfast bar, different sized cabinet heights to fit extra large items, and trim to match the moulding in the doorway.
The island is 3 feet from the cabinets and the fridge.
Beginning of the build up to go over the vent for the speedcooker.  The paper looking things in the cabinet are there to protect our stuff from the wet paint.  The walls were also painted a khaki color.
We went to lay our template for the granite.  Basically, the bottom and right side (in a backwards L shape) will be our counters and back-splash and the rest in the middle will be our island/breakfast bar (we thought the large vein was very interesting for an island piece). The granite is called "river gold," with silver, golds, ivories and and deep greys.
Painted doors were re-installed on the cabinets.

Cam installed the pendant lighting.

Our moulding on the top of the cabinets were installed.

Also, the vent cover was finished and the cabinets were edged with a french  glaze.

One more week--so close I can also taste it!

It looks AMAZING! I want to go home and rip my cabinets out right now - that would entitle me to a new kitchen, right?!

I like the combination of the old (french glaze on cabinets) and the new (the more modern and stainless steel pendent lighting) and the granite is beautiful. It will look great if you ever upgrade to stainless appliances.
