Thankful Thursday

I don't feel like I have too much to be thankful for right now, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't give thanks because life can always be worse. 

1. My computer crashed. But, I'm thankful that it's still under warranty and I don't have to pay to fix it.  I'm also super thankful it happened now and not during finals, and that I downloaded Dropbox a few weeks ago to back-up all my school files. 

Luckily this is NOT my computer. 

2. Finals are FIVE weeks away. Terrifying, but at least it means that the semester will be over and Christmas will be almost here! So much to do between now and then... 

3. My hair looks awful, so I'm super excited that I have a hair appointment this Saturday. I'm planning on getting the regular cut/color, but any suggestions for something different? I am thinking I want a big change before i start work, but we shall see. I can be a chicken when it comes to my hair...

4. C's humor. I was in a grouchy mood from a long day, but he has been making me laugh ever since he got home from work. 

5. Spring Scheduling came out. I was disappointed at first because to two bar classes I really wanted to take (Con Law II and Family Law) are at the same time (as well as 4 other bar classes). But, I'm thankful that it now gives me an excuse to take a non-bar class that I wanted to take and will hopefully be useful beyond the bar since I want to do litigation.

Thankful Thursday

1. The weekend.  Cam's parents from Tennessee are coming in town this weekend for the Georgia game and to go to Raven Run. I've never been, so I'm excited to see them and to go hiking. 

2. Thursday TV. I adore Grey's, The Mentalist, and The Big Bang Theory, so Thursdays are my favorite TV days. Lame, I know. It's the little things, right?

3. http://www.ukrejects.com. Seriously folks, check this out (if you're a UK fan).  It was the first thing to make me smile yesterday. 

4. Prayer. Cam and I don't routinely pray together daily. He prefers to pray in private, so its just something we haven't really done.  I would like to start, so we are now trying a book that helps couples pray together. He's being such a trooper because it's outside his comfort zone, and I'm really appreciative of that. 

5. Journal is almost over. Hallelujah--I may have the beginning of a life back. I have one more binder, evaluations, and edits to my own piece to make, and then I am done with the bulk of Journal.

Starting the Day Over

Today is one of those days where I am just frustrated at the world.  I've wasted the morning spending money and time on things that should other people should have taken care of or redoing work I've already done. 

Everything that frustrates me today is little: small hidden costs and little fees, bad drivers, people being late, files being destroyed, dealing with everything else and not what I had planned for the day, etc.  It is so hard for me not to let little things get under my skin.  I know its stupid to be in a bad mood because in 5 years (or even a week) these things aren't going to matter. I feel whiny and petty right now, and I'm not happy with my own outlook today.

So, I'm devoting the afternoon to getting into a better mood. Once I finish up my work for journal, I'm planning a bubble bath while watching Dexter to start my day over.  

In a completely unrelated note, I would love your advice and input. I am working with Lexington Habitat for Humanity and we are doing a online auction called "Bids for Builds" to auction off things with all proceeds going to Habitat.  We are currently collecting items, so I need so item suggestions.  What do you think people would bid on that we can get donated? Also, we would love to focus on more "experience" type items rather than tangible items as we think people would pay more for an experience than just a product.  Any experience ideas? A few of the ones I've thought of (but haven't gotten yet) are: 

-having a local chef cook a dinner for 6 at your home. 

-Have a distillery tour/tasting with the master distiller.

Ten on Tuesday: Random Q & A

I've been meaning to answer these questions I wrote--so I'll add two and count it as my ten on Tuesday. Feel free to take these questions and play along!

1. What DIY project are you most proud of? Share pictures.

I didn't do our kitchen remodel physically DIY, but I did all the design for it myself, and I'm pretty proud of that.  

I needlepoint, and I'm super proud of my christmas stocking and C's belts.

I also made last year's halloween costume completely from scratch (and it was my first time using a sewing machine, so that was a big step). 

2. What are you most afraid of?  
I am deathly afraid of snakes. I also don't like bridges or spiders.

3. Why do you blog? 

I blog as a way to let family and friends know what we are up to, but I find that if I write out my thoughts and activities, it makes me look at myself from a different perspective.

4. What color lipstick do you wear? 

I don't wear a lot of lipstick, but I generally wear a browny pink when I do. I would love lipstick color suggestions! 

5. What's your favorite go-to recipe? 
I always make caprese salad if I need something easy and quick.  And by easy, i mean super easy: arrange fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and basil leaves as you wish. Sprinkle with olive oil and balsamic, and garnish with olives and cracked pepper. Fresh and delicious.

6. What's your favorite place to go (or thing to do) for a cheap date? 

C and I love to go wine tasting with friends.  Local wineries have such charm and it is generally cheap for a tasting and it lends itself to conversation.  Most also have good appetizers to snack on. 

 

7. How many children do you want? Do you have a gender preference or names picked? 
I think this all depends on a lot. In a perfect world, I want three and C wants two, so in a ideal world I'd have two and an accident. :) Honestly, I'd be happy with just having healthy babies, regardless of gender.  C and I aren't sure if we can have kids because I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts, so we are just keeping our fingers crossed.  Either way, kids are very important to us so we would happily adopt if need be. 

We haven't really talked out names, but I love the names Anne and Jacquelyn for a girl. C wants a boy to have his initials. If I had my way, it would be Liam or Lynch (Lynch is a family last name). I also like the names Camden, Carter, and Clayton, Landry, and Levi. If we decide to venture out, I adore the name Gabriel, but C isn't as keen on it.

8. What is your favorite fashion trend/look for the fall? 
I love the tights and boots, and I think its because they allow you to wear dresses all year long.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve? 
Recently its been when a song has a great beat but awful or stupid lyrics.  I'm big on singing along, so bad lyrics tends to ruin it for me. Most recently, the Eminem song has been bothering me--I love the beat, but I'm not into the girlfriend burning. Another one is Alanis Morissette's "Ironic" because nothing in the song is actually ironic.  They are just really sucky things that happen, but it isn't irony. 


10. What's a picture that is cracking you up?

Wide World of Kentucky Sports

Ya'll clearly know I couldn't let this FABULOUS weekend go by without a post.  Friday's Big Blue Madness was great.  Clearly, the budget was a little smaller this year than last year (basically, our players didn't come out of the rafters), but it was still impressive to watch. 

 

All in all, I'm so excited for basketball to officially start.

On Saturday, Cam and I tailgated for the game that we were mentally prepared to lose.  I mean honestly, Kentucky had NEVER beaten Spurrier.  Ever.  Add that to South Carolina's win over Alabama last week, we decided to be realistic.  I was more excited about baked beans and twice baked potatoes than I was about the game. 

So the first half lived up to that expectation. We were down 28 to 10 and looked pretty pathetic.  We couldn't make a tackle to save our lives. 

But, we had distractions. Look who came and sat in the row right across from us:

 Yep, that's right. Coach Cal and our amazing basketball team and recruits.   I'm excited about this year's basketball season, but I'm just as excited for next year's as well. It looks like Cal's giving good advice to Gilchrist and Teague already...

 But in the second half, it was a totally different game.  The crowd was electric as we lined up for the touchdown...

 ...that we made with only 1:15 minutes in the game. 

 To help put the nail in the coffin, we made the two extra points. Everyone sat with bated breath for the next 1:15 while we watched South Carolina run it back down the field.

 Only to see USC's Hail Mary play intercepted with :04 left in game.   

 We were so excited!

 So was the rest of the stadium, who felt the need to rush the field.  

YAY!  Anyone else ready to do this again against Tennessee?

Eye Candy

I couldn't sleep last night, so I decided to start reading the discovery for my Innocence Project case that I copied on Wednesday at 10 last night.  I didn't fall asleep until page 730-ish, which I think was between 3 and 4 AM.  The alarm clock still went off at 6:50 this morning--so needless to say, today I am dragging. 

I feel like I do this a lot: I have one or two days a week where I just can't fall asleep.  At least it's been a productive day--outlined this morning, finished reading the remaining 100 pages of the discovery, did a presentation for the Innocence Project, and am now doing my article incorporation for journal.  I clearly lead an enthralling life, I know. 

Because I'm frankly too tired to do a real post, how about we all just have some Friday eye candy of my favorite kind: dresses.  I'm not the a collector of shoes or handbags, but I just love dresses.  Something about them feels so feminine and put together.
