Ten on Tuesday: Ten Fabulous Steals

Ten on Tuesday: 1 down, 2 to go

Took my first final this morning.  I felt good about it walking out, but then when I started comparing notes with others I felt a little worse.  Ugh, sometimes I should just go straight home and keep having a great day instead of lingering. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now. My next final isn't until next week (they are really spaced out this semester, thank goodness), so I am taking the afternoon off, catching up on Dexter, and filling out Christmas cards.


Cam has his big presentation (in lieu of his final) for one of his MBA classes tonight, so keep your fingers crossed for him!

Here's a quick ten on Tuesday: 


Ten Things to Accomplish over Christmas Break. 

1) Spend one day with Cam without any computers, cell phones, or TV.  This sounds like my idea of heaven right now. Even better if it involves the beach.


2) Bake Christmas cookies.  Definitely must use my family recipes: flour cookies with icing and chocolate drop cookies.  I'm absolutely ready to bake again: it may even turn into chocolate pies by the end of it...

3) Draft my independent study paper.  This not only would make my semester easier in the spring, but there is a competition for these papers, so if I can turn it in by mid January, I'd be entered to win money--not that I'll win, but it is good motivation. 

4) Catch up in reading.  In my idea that heaven, I'm holding a good book.  I'm so ready to be curled up with something not law related. A few books on my list (for book club):

5) Paint. I'm planning on painting the under the chair rail in the dining room and the shelves and trim in the living room.  And I am excited beyond words for this because I've been wanting to do this for a while! 

 Hopefully not like this...

6) Shop! Need I even explain this one? We are going to the outlets and I am ready. 

7) Sleep. Finals are exhausting, and I'm ready to sleep in. 

8) Watch some good UK basketball. There's always tomorrow's game, right? Here's to hoping they learn from these losses (so there aren't any more). 

9) Catch up with the girls.  I'm ready (with a good bottle of wine in hand) for my out of town girlfriends to be home visiting family over the break.

10) Christmas! This is definitely a last but not least. I'm ready to get into the holiday spirit, dance around to Christmas songs, drive around and look at lights, and eat tons of good food.  Yum! But, i am sad I'm missing out on the family girl's trip to NYC (yet another reason I'm bitter towards finals...)

Ten on Tuesday: We Want Prenup, We Want Prenup!

In class today we discussed prenupital agreements, and we also talked about some bizarre (yet real, valid, and legally enforceable) prenup clauses. 

Can you imagine that trying to be the attorney having to sell these prenup clauses to the other spouse? Ouch...

1) Husband may only watch football with friends one Sunday a month. 

2) The mother-in-law is not allowed to spend the night at their home.  

3) The husband has to pay $10,000 from his separate account each time he was rude to the mother-in-law. 

4) The wife cannot weigh more than 120 pounds. If she goes over this weight by even a pound, she must pay a penalty of $100,000 from her separate account. 

5) The husband is subject to random drug testing. If he tests positive, he must pay a penalty of $100,000 form his separate account. If he tests positive for cocaine, he does not get a dime in a divorce. 

6) The husband does not have to go on any family vacations with his in-laws. 

7) The wife is entitled to all frequent-flier miles if the husband is unfaithful. 

8) The wife of an LA laker basketball player is entitled to season Lakers tickets for her entire family in the event of divorce. Because who doesn't want to watch your ex-hubby play every game of basketball? 

9) Every time the husband is unfaithful, the wife receives a $100,000 "bonus."

10) In an unusual agreement a couple has with her parents, if the couple split within ten years of their marriage, they have to pay her father back for the cost of their wedding (almost $40,000).

Ten on Tuesday: Random Q & A

I've been meaning to answer these questions I wrote--so I'll add two and count it as my ten on Tuesday. Feel free to take these questions and play along!

1. What DIY project are you most proud of? Share pictures.

I didn't do our kitchen remodel physically DIY, but I did all the design for it myself, and I'm pretty proud of that.  

I needlepoint, and I'm super proud of my christmas stocking and C's belts.

I also made last year's halloween costume completely from scratch (and it was my first time using a sewing machine, so that was a big step). 

2. What are you most afraid of?  
I am deathly afraid of snakes. I also don't like bridges or spiders.

3. Why do you blog? 

I blog as a way to let family and friends know what we are up to, but I find that if I write out my thoughts and activities, it makes me look at myself from a different perspective.

4. What color lipstick do you wear? 

I don't wear a lot of lipstick, but I generally wear a browny pink when I do. I would love lipstick color suggestions! 

5. What's your favorite go-to recipe? 
I always make caprese salad if I need something easy and quick.  And by easy, i mean super easy: arrange fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and basil leaves as you wish. Sprinkle with olive oil and balsamic, and garnish with olives and cracked pepper. Fresh and delicious.

6. What's your favorite place to go (or thing to do) for a cheap date? 

C and I love to go wine tasting with friends.  Local wineries have such charm and it is generally cheap for a tasting and it lends itself to conversation.  Most also have good appetizers to snack on. 

 

7. How many children do you want? Do you have a gender preference or names picked? 
I think this all depends on a lot. In a perfect world, I want three and C wants two, so in a ideal world I'd have two and an accident. :) Honestly, I'd be happy with just having healthy babies, regardless of gender.  C and I aren't sure if we can have kids because I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts, so we are just keeping our fingers crossed.  Either way, kids are very important to us so we would happily adopt if need be. 

We haven't really talked out names, but I love the names Anne and Jacquelyn for a girl. C wants a boy to have his initials. If I had my way, it would be Liam or Lynch (Lynch is a family last name). I also like the names Camden, Carter, and Clayton, Landry, and Levi. If we decide to venture out, I adore the name Gabriel, but C isn't as keen on it.

8. What is your favorite fashion trend/look for the fall? 
I love the tights and boots, and I think its because they allow you to wear dresses all year long.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve? 
Recently its been when a song has a great beat but awful or stupid lyrics.  I'm big on singing along, so bad lyrics tends to ruin it for me. Most recently, the Eminem song has been bothering me--I love the beat, but I'm not into the girlfriend burning. Another one is Alanis Morissette's "Ironic" because nothing in the song is actually ironic.  They are just really sucky things that happen, but it isn't irony. 


10. What's a picture that is cracking you up?

Ten on Tuesday: Things on my Mind

No strong theme today, just ten things going on right now...

1. Congrats to our good friends Jillian and James for getting engaged this past weekend! We are so incredibly happy for you both!

2. Ugh. Dentist appointment today--at least I had no cavities.  I absolutely hate going to to dentist. My dentist is nice and is who my husband uses locally, but  I can't stand having someone in my mouth and can't stand all the scraping sounds. I heard about some local dentist office that gives cookies and does paraffin wax massages on your hands while you wait, which sounds more like my speed.  Anyone go there and care to share their experience? Has anyone else does the sedation dentistry and have any experience with that?

3.  I have the best friends ever. I had a great weekend catching up with the girls.  Friday night was a wonderful dinner and drinks with Thetas and on Sunday Lauren (an awesome wedding planner/florist) and I went out for lavender mojitos.  She was so kind to give me an gorgeous arrangement to take home. Every time I walk into the kitchen, I smile.

4. Paint. 'm thinking about painting our bedroom, again. I think our green is a little seafoam-y for me, and I would like a more neutral, tan-green.  I recently saw the Sherwin Williams color Burlap at a house and loved it. I don't want anything too different, just something with a warmer, more brown undertone. 

 Our bedroom now (it is more seafoamy than this, I swear). 

I'm also planning on painting the wooden trim and shelves white in our living room.  I think I will leave the wooden beams alone, but I am thinking the trim would blend into the new kitchen better, and would help lighten up the living room.

5. Life is short.  C had a visitation for a fraternity brother this weekend.  I think I'm still in that invincible state because it seems implausible to me that someone our age can die. Since I heard about his death, I've been thinking about how life is short and have actively tried to  live every moment to the fullest.  

Also, keep my uncle (and godfather) in your prayers.  He has stage four cancer and it has spread, so he is currently in chemo and radiation.  Honestly, I try to trust in God completely, but it is often hard to think of death or disease being part of his plan.

6.  Fresher=better. We bought fresh corn, tomatoes, and peaches from a farm this weekend.  The corn was picked the day before, and tasted fabulous yesterday.  I love all the fresh veggies this time of year.

7. School's expensive.  Even with every cent I earned this summer and my scholarship, we will have to pay money to UK this year.  Tuition is absurd, and books are even more of a rip off.

8. Needlepointing.  I used to be a needlepointing fiend, and then I entered law school.  So now, I'm trying to finish the hunting scene pillow I started before law school. Wish me luck...

9. I'm Cooking a Surprise Dinner Tonight.  Yes, you read that right. Cooking. Shocker, I know.  I think its because there is nothing on daytime television.

I'm making ravioli with homemade tomato basil sauce and mixing a fresh salad. The sauce is cooking down right now, and smells delicious. Hopefully this will taste as good as it smells. For the sauce, I blanched 6 roma tomatoes for 10 seconds, sat them in an ice bath, peeled the skins, removed the seeds, and chopped the tomatoes.  In a medium-sized pan, I sauteed fresh garlic and shallots in olive oil.  I then added the chopped tomatoes to the olive oil and put in fresh basil, oregano, crushed red pepper, sea salt and balsamic vinegar, and am letting the mix (covered) simmer on the stove for about an hour.  

10. Lovely Bones is the saddest movie ever.  I watched it yesterday and just sat on the couch the whole time, crying--and I'm not a crier.  I didn't cry reading the book, but the movie just got to me.
